STORIES

That time I took Photos for ASTROCOLOR at the Phillips Backyard Weekender.

And Durand Jones and the Indications.

Bill, whom I’ve been friends with for many years, asked me to snap some photos of their band, Astrocolor, performing at the Phillips Backyard Weekender.

It was the first time in 2 years they were performing in front of a live audience,

And first time in 2 years that anyone had been to a show, really. Everyone was looking forward to letting loose again.

So, Bill set me up with a pass; let's rock 'n' roll.

Sunday, May 15, 2022.

I set off with my 3 cameras, all in hand, and many rolls of film.

I was having issues with my Nixon,

And using a lens with my Pentax that I never use– I wasn’t sure if my photos would turn out.

It was a mystery.

Walking into Phillips, everyone seemed to be in good spirits, despite the rain. People were still having a good time.

I went backstage to hang out with everyone from Astrocolor and take photos.

To be honest, I don’t think I was allowed backstage. I didn’t see any photographers or anyone with the media. Maybe I got lucky?

Oh well, I’m a rebel.

Astrocolor was amazing as always.

They got the crowd going.

While backstage, I met Durand Jones,

And his band, Durand Jones & The Indications, from Indiana.

It was their first time in Victoria,

And definitely, an honour to meet them.
